Vein Therapy
Many people
are embarrassed by unsightly spider veins on the face or legs, but
now men and women alike can make them a thing of the past with the Cutera
CoolGlide laser. Laser vein removal can restore your skin to a more
youthful appearance without painful injections or down time, and with
the CoolGlide's longer wavelength both superficial and deep reticular
veins can be treated on all skin tones.
Spider veins and telangectasias are actually dilated or stretched blood vessels that may appear most commonly on the face or legs as a result of heredity, rosacea, sun damage, excessive standing, weight gain, hormonal changes and pregnancy. They respond readily to laser therapy and the number of treatments needed depends on the type and number of veins to be treated. Typically, one or two treatments are needed for facial vessels; whereas, three or four treatments may be needed on the legs. Treatment can be done every 6 weeks on the face, and every 3 months on the legs. Cherry hemangiomas (red dots on the body) can also be treated and usually only require one or two treatments.
The Cutera® CoolGlide laser is a noninvasive light therapy device specifically designed to eliminate undesired blood vessels from all parts of the body. The Nd:Yag laser generates a pulse of intense, concentrated light directed through a small, cooled hand piece gently applied to the treatment site. This laser energy passes through the skin to the blood vessels. where it selectively damages the lining of the target blood vessel without damaging the surrounding tissues and skin. The destroyed blood vessels are reabsorbed by the body, and the flow of blood is directed back down into the deeper vessels, where it belongs. Since laser vein removal does not break the skin, there is no need for bandages or support stockings. There is no down time and people are able to return to full activities immediately after treatment.
Procedure: Proper eye wear is provided. The area to be treated is first cooled, but you may feel a tingling or snapping sensation like a rubber band with each pulse of light. There is no bleeding or disruption of the skin. Many also find that they have less discomfort if they shave the area to be treated at least a couple of hours BEFORE coming in for treatment. Small spider veins and facial telangectasias often disappear immediately. Occasionally some mild redness or swelling or bruising may occur, but generally fades quickly. There can also be increased or decreased pigment in the treated area which tends to resolve over a few months.
